Dundee Museum of Transport contributors

Our aim is to create a museum with as diverse a collection of travel-related items as possible. To do this we need the support of as many individuals, groups and companies as possible. If you want support us in any way please get in touch through our contact page.

As more organisations join with us in the establishment of Dundee Museum of Transport we will add their details to the list below.

Taybus Vintage Vehicle Society (TVVS) - Scottish charity number SC032525

The Taybus Vintage Vehicle Society was formed in October 1995 by a group of Tayside Public Transport Company employees to look after and rally the company’s heritage bus, the preserved Daimler CVG6 - ETS 964 (184).

The Society exists to acquire and facilitate restoration, operation and display of historic road vehicles. The first bus acquired by the Society for preservation at this time was Bristol VRT - OSR 204R (204)

Although formed to care for just one vehicle, Taybus has grown into an organisation that owns a number of buses, and whose members own several others. The Society also owns a significant amount of memorabilia, particularly relating to buses in and around Dundee.

Dundee Model Boat Club

The club was formed on the 20th April 1885 at the Coffee House, Candle Lane, Dundee for the "furtherance of the recreation of all aspects of Model Boating." The club is therefore one of the oldest in Scotland and amongst the oldest in Britain and has sailed at the Stobswell Ponds for it's entire life.

The yachting side of the club decreased until in the 80s the club became the Dundee Model Boat Club with mostly radio controlled power boats, scale and fast electric.

In 1985 the club held it's centenary year with a resurgence of yachting, an R36r yacht was designed and produced for club members and some 6 metre yachts were converted to radio control. A fast electric and Marblehead yacht were both used to cross the river Tay from Tayport to Broughty Ferry, a distance of about 3 miles over a tidal estuary.

The club meets at the Stobswell ponds on Tuesday evenings from 7.00pm and Sunday afternoons from 12.00 midday. During the winter, if the pond is frozen, the club is open on Sundays for discussion and general talking about boats.

Dundee Model Railway Club

The club was formed in 1949 "to foster and promote general interest in the hobby and it’s relationship to rail transport" and that still remains true to this day. Membership is open to all persons from school age to beyond retirement. However, they do prefer that a responsible adult accompanies those under 16.

Meetings are held on Monday and Friday evenings between 7:30pm and 10:30pm at 2-4 Huntly Square, Dundee. The clubroom is  a modern unit with a large layout room, workshop, canteen and a washroom/toilet. The club is run by an annually elected committee and is a member of the Association of Model Railway Societies in Scotland (AMRSS).

Layouts Currently in use are Westhaven (OO) and Yakima (HO), Foxhat Junction (N), Dry Falls (N), Huntly Park (OO) and Craigport on Tay (OO). They would like to build a new modern image layout and are looking for new members to help with this project.
