Saturday 11 August 2012: Baxter Park Fun Day

It was great returning to Baxter Park with our new mobile exhibition trailer and classic vehicles which received a very enthusiastic welcome.

Sunday 10th June 2012: WestFest - Magdalen Green, Dundee

Just eight days after our trailer was officially unveiled we were back on the road attending WestFest for the second time.

Our exhibition trailer was busy with visitors for the duration of the event at Magdalen Green. Classic car Austin A35 DSL967 in the shadow of Karrier/Carmichael Water Tender FYJ415. Former Angus Area (Tayside) Fire Brigade 1958 Karrier/Carmichael Water Tender FYJ415. Triumph Herald 1200 MDF128F with Austin A35 and Angus Area Water Tender in background. Autorent's Fleur de Lis van BO196 was a welcome addition to the vehicles on display.
Our ever-popular photographs of Dundee Buses were once again on display inside our trailer.

Saturday 2nd June 2012: Official opening of our mobile exhibition trailer - Overgate, Dundee

After months of hard work it was time to reveal our new mobile exhibition trailer and when better than during the Diamond Jubilee weekend.

Launching our first event for 2012 in great style were the 6th/8th Dundee Boys' Brigade Pipe Band - the 2011 Scottish Bands Contest Champions. Not long after our event the 6th/8th Dundee Boys' Brigade Pipe Band played for Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond at Edinburgh Castle. The 6th/8th Dundee Boys' Brigade Pipe Band attracted at least 200 people outside the Overgate. Many thanks to Ross McGregor for his support. The first public outing of our fully assembled exhibition trailer beside Dundee's Old Steeple and the Overgate. It is decorated with over 100 transport-related photographs. Our exhibition trailer was partly funded by Maryfield Regeneration Forum and Dundee Partnership. Many thanks to Andy Marr from 1 Stop Graphics for the printed vinyls. Many thanks to Retail Liaison Manager Susie Fisher and her team at Overgate for making our event possible and to everyone to came along on the day. Chairman Jimmy McDonell talks to Joe FitzPatrick MSP. Looking on are Membership Secretary Nigel Watson (in uniform), top fund-raiser Margaret Souter and George Brodie. Another view inside our exhibition trailer with retired Fire Officer Keith Richardson looking very smart in full period uniform. Also looking on is Mike Slater senior. From left: Stewart Murdoch (Director, Leisure and Communities), Jimmy McDonell, Joe FitzPatrick MSP and Councillor Fraser MacPherson. Many thanks for their attendance and continued support. A great display of sponsors vehicles: Autorent's Fleur de Lis van BO196, electrician Gordon Smith's Honda Redwing motor bike and Birkhill Trading's Bedford van HSK974. Looking along the front of Overgate with classic convertible AAF535 nearest the camera. In the distance at Fleur de Lis van BO196 and Ford Turino DRH644P. Kevin Don's magnificent 1976 Ford Torino "Starsky and Hutch" car ORH644P. Thanks to Kevin for his help on the day with exhibition trailer and setting up the displays. Membership Secretary Nigel Watson's Army Car which formed part of a small military-themed section of our display outside Overgate Dundee. Many thanks to Dave Neill for adding to the military-related items at our first display of 2012 with "Willy's Jeep". Barry Taylor's well-polished Rover P4 100 UCS944 attracted a lot of attention throughout the day. Keeping it company outside the Overgate was a Rolls Royce. Next to the Ashton Litter is the newly-restored horse-drawn ambulance complete with nurse in period uniform. On the right is former Angus Area (Tayside) Fire Brigade 1958 Karrier/Carmichael Water Tender FYJ415. A general overview of many of the exhibits outside Overgate Dundee which attracted considerable attention throughout the course of the day. Scott Somerville from the Dundee Channel films The Lord Provost's Youth Parade which took a detour through our display before returning to the City Square. Now in its ninth year The Lord Provost's Youth Parade started from Dundee High School. Here behind the band and in front of our exhibition trailer is Lord Provost Bob Duncan. The organisers of the parade generously decided to continue the parade along the High Street and into our display area at the Overgate for which we thank them very much. There were over 750 people in The Lord Provost's Youth Parade. Thankfully the sun shone on them (and us) throughout the day which added to the special Jubilee weekend atmosphere. Army, Air Force and Navy Cadets all took part in the Lord Provost's Youth Parade which was very warmly welcomed by everyone in and around Dundee's Overgate. Scott Somerville from The Dundee Channel not only interviewed Museum Chairman Jimmy McDonell but filmed The Lord Provost's Youth Parade as well. Both can be viewed online.
